COMPETENCE IN TEXTILES - WORLDWIDE
The Hohenstein Institute is an accredited test laboratory and research institute. Its work first and foremost involves the testing and certification of textiles. Besides these services, applied research in the field of textile products and applications of all kinds is among our core competencies, e.g. within the framework of research projects with public funding. It additionally offers numerous further education courses and programmes aimed for example at industry, dealing with all issues throughout the textiles production chain.
The Hohenstein Institute was founded in Bönnigheim (Germany) in 1946. Some 800 staff are currently employed at its headquarters and its laboratories and offices based in Europe, Asia and America. The international client base does not just include companies along the entire textiles production chain but increasingly, those from other branches such as the automotive industry, medicine and investment / consumer goods.
The laboratory tests and investigations on offer extend from classical material testing through quality assessment of a wide range of product characteristics to the evaluation of product performance for many different applications as well as comparative testing of goods.
Product labels such as the Hohenstein Quality Label or the UV Standard 801 assist manufacturers and traders when marketing the tested textiles. As a founder member the Hohenstein Institute is a leading global laboratory for testing textiles for harmful substances in accordance with STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® and the certification of sustainable production facilities according to STeP by OEKO-TEX®. Hohenstein's numerous accreditations include its recognition as a test and certification centre (European Notified Body 0555) for personal protective equipment (PPE).
